RM of Poplar Valley Announces Federal Support for Planned Road Infrastructure Upgrades

RM of Poplar Valley, Sask. – Today, the RM of Poplar Valley announced an exciting road infrastructure project that will improve road safety and allow greater movement of goods and services.

With the support of Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) through its Canada Coal Transition Infrastructure Fund, the RM received $973,889 to make these important investments not only in infrastructure, but also in commerce.

As a result of increased population, increased traffic and future development opportunities, the eight kilometres of what was previously known as “Feedlot Road” will undergo a major transformation. Work will include mitigating concerns such as reducing blind hills, widening the thoroughfare to accommodate higher vehicle volumes and rebuilding the road base to ensure it can accommodate heavy vehicles, which will reduce future maintenance costs.

“Our government knows how crucial road infrastructure is to economic development in rural Saskatchewan,” said Dan Vandal, Minister for PrairiesCan. “This investment will help the RM of Poplar Valley to upgrade an important road as the community prepares for future development.”
